About BoobieinPA

I was born on July 16, 1943 in Rochester PA. I have one brother (Dennis). Carolyn & I got married on Feb.3 1968 and have loved every minute of it.

I retired as a pipefitter/welder out of Local Union 47, which used to be Local Union 115.

My oldest son (Nate) is now a journeyman following in my footsteps as I followed my dads. My youngest son (Robbie) and his wife Kathy have blessed us with two lovely granddaughters, Megan & Kaylee. Robbie is a computer expert and works in Pittsburgh, PA.
My wife and I live in a town called New Brighton, about 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh.

I got started detecting in the early 70's with a Whites analog machine. Then I got the Eagle Pro which I still use, it is my (ole faithful). I then decided to go underwater so I got a Whites PI machine for snorkeling. I didn’t use it to much as I should, because I couldn’t find anyone to go with me and in my humble opinion detecting is really a buddy hobby.

But now that I found a water detecting buddy,  I purchased a Tesoro Tiger Shark.

While working in New Jersey with my Pro I saw the advertisement for the DFX. So I got one and it is really a good machine. My only trouble was that it has so many options I hadn’t figured them out {as quick as I wanted to}. Being in my 60s it is hard to teach a ole dog new tricks. But once I got to be half decent with the DFX I also got the SunRay DX-1 probe for it.

I recently purchased the Minelab ExplorerII along with the SunRay X-1 probe. So now I have multiple machines to choose from.

So far I have been able to hunt in Pa., Ohio, New York, West Virginia, Virginia, New Jersey, and Bermuda. I really like to hunt beaches but there aren’t to many in my area.

Two of my best finds were a $10 and a $20 gold piece which I found when my wife was out with me at Bradys Run Lake when it was drained. At the time I didn’t have a camera so I kept them for a couple years and sold them. That was a huge mistake.

The area at one time was used for a major civil war union training camp which was where I found the rare PHG belt buckle which I just had authenticated as a genuine Civil War belt buckle.
